Profile
Philip's warm insightful imagery has broad application in print media - editorial, music, corporate and advertising. Perhaps he owes it all to Tin Tin and Walt Disney ... the sources of Philip's early fascination with travel and exotic world's. Regardless, after completing his bachelor of architecture at university, Philip embarked on a journey through Asia, Europe and North Africa that lead him to change career and take up photography. He's never looked back. Starting his photographic career in Toronto, he's since been based in Tokyo, Sydney, Perth and now works between bases in Shanghai and San Francisco. His portrait, documentary and illustrative work has appeared internationally in publications including The Independent, The Observer, TIME, Conde Nast Traveler, Figaro Japon, VOGUE China, Australian Geographic and The Financial Review magazines. Documentary features have included work on Mongolia's nomads and India's traditional street performers, while portrait commissions include Quentin Tarantino, Diana Ross and Jeff Buckley among others.
In addition to teaching Photo workshops, Philip has taught Photo Journalism and Photo Media at two of Australia's most progressive tertiary institutes: University of Western Sydney and Edith Cowan University.
Philip's work has been exhibited in Australia, Europe and Japan and was featured at Holland's 1999 Noorderlicht Photo Festival. His work is included in the National Gallery of Australia and in both 2003 and 2005 he was a finalist in Australia's biennial Leica Photo Documentary Awards.
