"For me it's about the connection to people from all walks of life - celebrities, corporate CEO's, factory workers - that makes this work worthwhile." An inquisitive and adventurous spirit would lead Philip away from his home in the far west of Australia and an initial career in architecture into a world of travel and freedom in photography. It was inevitable. He embraced the spontaneity that came with the work, and his wanderlust and creative energies have been truly satiated - having had bases on three continents. Living in Shanghai, China, he's enjoying bringing his edgy, intuitive style to new clients in Asia. "I'm attracted to the idea of visual narratives: film, documentary, stills. I enjoy the process of creating images to tell stories." As a director and writer, he's now also developing film and TV projects. His illustration work, mimicking how the mind's eye functions, captures a memory through a collection of images. Whatever the undertaking, Philip's approach naturally embraces client needs and objectives. When not photographing Philip can be found beachcombing with his kids, cycling his old mountain bike, or hanging out at a local café refining his 60s and 70s pop trivia. His stills series on the 2001 Black Christmas Bush Fires is held in the National Gallery of Australia. |
